How You Can Get Involved PDF Print E-mail

Your level of involvement with the Thanks-a-Million Foundation is limited only by your imagination!

We encourage all Foundation members to be as creative and innovative as they like in coming up with new and exciting ways to raise funds for MS. The opportunities listed below are just a sample of ways you and your staff can become involved.

A boardroom lunch with your key clients and suppliers. A black-tie ball branded under your company name. An art exhibition showcasing the work of local artists. A charity auction. A barefoot bowls day with a company BBQ for staff. Let your imagination run wild! You can host an event of any nature and nominate the MS Society of Queensland as the beneficiary.

If you wish to promote you special event as an official Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland fundraiser and receive Thanks-a-Million Foundation promotional material, please contact Jacqui Dawson, Partnership Manager, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland on (07) 3840 0863 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Workplace Giving is a simple and cost-effective way for employees to regularly donate to the MS Society of Queensland. Your employees pledge a nominated amount which is sent directly to the Society each pay through an automated payroll system. As an added benefit, because donations are 100% tax deductible, donations are taken from the employee's salary as a "pre-PAYG tax" donation, effectively reducing their gross taxable income.

Companies operating a successful Workplace Giving program report a number of benefits to their business including:

  • Building business reputation and profile
  • Contributing to staff morale and loyalty
  • Building closer relationships with community organisations
  • Being seen as an employer of choice
  • Enhancing the organisation’s image as a good corporate citizen
  • Reinforcing organisation’s identity, ideals and values through partnering with a social enterprise.

Sponsorship of events  conducted by the MS Society of Queensland guarantee a high level of exposure and goodwill for your company.  Sponsorships are available at a range of cash levels from $5000 to <$XX,000 for naming rights.  For more information, contact the MS Society of Queensland’s Event and Marketing Manager on 07 3840 0822.

You can help promote your company’s goods and/or services by donating one or more items/services which can be used as raffle prizes, auction items and incentives at MS Society of Queensland fundraising events such as the MSQuerade Ball, the MS Brissie to the Bay Bike Ride and the MS MoonWalk.

The recently-launched Life at Coorparoo development heralds a new era in integrated living for young adults with disabilities. The two tower complex is the first of its kind of development in Queensland, and possibly Australia.

This landmark development will provide previously unavailable community living for young people with Multiple Sclerosis currently cared for in an institutional setting. Life at Coorparoo is a joint initiative of the McDonald Keen Group and the MS Society of Queensland. There are a limited number of opportunities for corporate sponsorship of the fit out of the environmentally-friendly apartments owned by the MS Society of Queensland within this development.

More and more companies are recognising the value of engaging their staff in projects that support the non profit sector.  There are a range of opportunities for staff engagement including:

VOLUNTEERING

The MS Society of Queensland has many opportunities for volunteers – from providing companionship and support to people with MS at Granston Lodge – the Society’s care facility at Dutton Park or conducting a special class art or craft class with residents, to being event crew volunteers at special events such as the MS Brissie to the Bay Bike Ride, the MS MoonWalk and the MS Readathon.  The Society’s Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with your HR division or Community Project team to ensure it provides the most appropriate volunteering opportunities for individual members of staff.

MS BACKYARD BLITZ

The majority of the MS Society of Queensland’s clients live independently in their own homes, with varying degrees of physical and cognitive disabilities.  A significant number of people with MS suffer a progressive decline in mobility and modifying their homes to accommodate wheelchair access and other disability aids places an intolerable financial burden on their already limited resources.

Without appropriate wheelchair access to and within their homes, people with MS may be forced to relocate: either to an already disability-friendly home, or they may be forced to surrender their independence and move into supported accommodation (hostel or nursing home care).

If your company is in the construction or landscaping industry, your employees could have a significant and positive impact on the lives of people with MS by conducting one or more makeovers within the homes and backyards of people with MS.

Projects could include a range of improvements, from installing wheelchair ramps and interior hand rails, to a complete backyard blitz which would transform the exterior of the home into a disability-friendly environment.
